Giorgio advises businesses, creditors, and institutions on complex commercial, corporate, and cross-border insolvency matters, with particular expertise in M&A, restructuring, private international law, and data protection.
A dual-qualified Italian Avvocato and English Solicitor, Giorgio founded Studio Corno Avvocati, now SCAI Legal, in 1994 after completing his professional training at a boutique law firm in Milan. For over three decades, he has advised clients across Italy and internationally, combining rigorous legal expertise with strategic foresight in high-stakes, multi-jurisdictional scenarios.
He is a Certified Turnaround Professional (EACTP) and a longstanding member of the Banking and Financial Conciliation Body, where he has handled financial disputes since 2008. Since 2022, he has served on the Milan Panel of the Banking and Financial Ombudsman.
Giorgio is Italy’s national correspondent for UNIDROIT, a founding member of CERIL (Conference of European Restructuring and Insolvency Law), and the Immediate Past President of INSOL Europe , where he helped shape the European agenda on early restructuring and fresh start frameworks. He is also a member of the European Law Institute, the International Law Association, and the International Lawyers’ Chamber.
He collaborates as an expert with the National Foundation of Chartered Accountants (Rome) through the International Business Crisis Observatory, and serves on the editorial board of Global Restructuring Review.
Giorgio has contributed to major EU and U.S. reform projects in insolvency law, including:
- The European Commission’s project on emergency pandemic legislation (2020);
- The European Law Institute’s Rescue of Business in Insolvency Law (2017);
- The American Bankruptcy Institute’s reform of Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code (2017);
- The INSOL Europe study leading to the European Commission’s Recommendation on restructuring (2013).
A frequent speaker at academic and professional conferences in Italy and abroad, Giorgio is also the author of numerous publications focused on the cross-border aspects of insolvency and corporate crisis. Recent works include:
